“Light! More Light!” brings together the recent generations of Hungarian light and new media artists to occupy the empty spaces of the former Ellátóház on Klauzál Square. Before the official opening of Budapest’s legendary creative technology studio, the Kiégő Izzók / Glowing Bulbs’* new headquarters, the Lighthouse Association of Light Artists takes over all three levels of the building with a large-scale exhibition exploring the manifold meanings of light: as a cognitive, political, and spiritual force.
The title refers to Goethe’s famous last words, reinterpreted through Béla Hamvas’s metaphysical writings, in which “more light” becomes not only a call for enlightenment but also for inner awakening. The exhibition also honors the landmark 2015 Hungarian light art exhibition, Több Fény! Fénykörnyezetek (More Light! Light Environments), held at Új Budapest Galéria and curated by Endre Lehel Paksi. This current project positions itself as a community-based response to his 2023 paper, “Még több fény!” (Still More Light!).
Through immersive installations, projections, and interactive light structures, the participating artists examine how contemporary technology shapes perception, community, and the urban environment, and how light connects us back to space, to memory, and to one another. The exhibition acts as an anti-gentrification gesture, returning the space to the artistic community and reactivating Erzsébetváros as a cultural field of resonance.
